Travels with Liz - Lake CC SP

It has been too windy to kayak here. We have done quite a lot of geo caching and some birding. The weather has not been very cooperative. Decided to go to the Texas "Valley" when we leave here.

Starting travels with Liz - CCSP

Left Potter's Creek on Sunday and drove thru downtown San Antonio on our way to Choke Canyon State Park. We were scheduled to stay here until Feb 10. Lots of fun things we can do here. I will be posting pictures later on our time here.

Kayaking is great here, even though the lake is way down in elevation.

We will be leaving here and heading to Lake Corpus Christi located at Mathis.

Travels in January 2012

Catch up time. I  had a very loud noise coming from the window area of my car. I took it to Chuck Nash Chevrolet and they figured it out and repaired it. Seems like the rubber that holds the window in the frame will sometimes age and vibrates against the car. The planned trip to NM would check it out.

My friend, Liz, made it to Potter's Creek and we had Colleen come up from Schertz and we had some good visits before I took off for NM.

I made a quick trip to Las Cruces, NM for my annual medical visits. Glad that is over. It is always fun to visit friends while taking care of those necessities. I do need to make a change and get new doctor's over here in central Texas.  Gosh I don't even like to think about doing that particular chore. I love my doctor's and would like to get them to move to Texas. All the reports were good ones....well so far.

YES the window repair fixed the vibration. What a nice trip that was.

Trip to Las Cruces, NM

I am making a trip to Las Cruces to see my doctors out here. I normally bring my binocs and scope and birding gear. This time I decided that I really just wanted to drive out, visit with friends, see the docs and then drive home. No stops on the road. The only way I can ensure no stops is to not have my "stuff" with me. So I left them in my rig.

First stop on the road was Junction, TX. Decided to gas up as it was about 100 miles to Ozona, the next town of any size. WOW I paid $3.499 for gas at the Valero. Was I ever shocked. :(. Gas back toward San Antonio was around $3.209 or less. Oh, well so it goes. My gas mileage was down a little at that stop as I only recorded 26.0 mpg. The next stretch, something's gotta be wrong because I recorded 23.4 which is even lower. Could be speed - yuh think? - and the hilly roads. Next fill up was El Paso, the east side at the Flying J there, but the receipt is in the car. My normal is 30 plus/minus 2 mpg.

I did have some work done on my car, but it should only have effected the noise coming from the front window. That is fixed. Wondering if they might have done some updating to the computer system that caused some changes.

Will be filling up Wednesday night and be ready for the road on Thursday morning. Expect to spend the night in Fort Stockton and then drive on home Friday. Will be good to get back in my own bed. Besides company is like fish and should be thrown out after 3 days. I have been here with my friends 3 days and time is about up. I love staying here as they are so much fun. There isn't much that they aren't doing. She is into politics and he likes to hunt. She likes to cook and he likes to eat. He would love to retire, but there is the old thing about health insurance costs and pre-existing conditions - and we all have those. They have a son in the local university and that is always a challenge. Great folks to visit.

Starting 2012 and some plans

Can you believe it? This is now 2012. Remember when 2000 was a really big deal? I spent the New Year of 2000 in Orlando, FL so that I could make sure that our offsite operation would roll over into the New Year. Had no thought of RVing and didn't know some of the kind ladies that I now RV with who were in Fl at that time. Certainly didn't have the idea that 2012 I'd be RVing and using that mode of travel. I had been a travelling person for a long time. Among other places, I did make 7 trips to Hawaii. Loved it there and went with friends. Then my brother and sister-in-law were stationed there and it was so much fun visiting Hawaii and having family show you the non-tourist places.

So here we are in 2012 and wondering what it holds for us this year. One thing is a trip to Alaska with some other RVing women. Some of us have called it a trip of a life time. However on reflecting, every trip is a trip of a lifetime. We have planned a loose caravan and will take off across the border toward the end of May and then back across the beginning of September. Of course all of this timing is planned in Jellow. We do have reservations in Denali National Park over the 4th of July. That is Jellow with fruit in it kind of plan. We have to pay if we change it.

I am expecting that my sister-in-law and my good friend, Red, will be flying up to do some birding and sightseeing. That will be so fun to be with them on this great trip.

First of the year is the doctor appointments to get over with so we can move forward with our new scripts for medications. Then we are released to GO.

Completing 2011

We are completing another year! It is really so unreal that time has passed so quickly. Lots of things happened this year. Many good, a few sad, and some really bad.

I pray for all of my friends this new year that God will bless each one, provide them with the strength to make it through each and every day that might be painful, provide them with the knowledge that He has a plan for each of us, that His will be done in His time, that he will cause us all to be kind and strong.

I am looking forward to a great 2012 with lots of new adventures. I hope you all have great adventures in your life too. See YA NEXT YEAR. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Christmas Day 2011

It has been a busy Fall. Lots of things have gotten done and lots more to do now during this winter time. I am reducing 'things' in the RV. I am in the planning stages for a trip to Alaska this summer. I don't want to be dragging more weight than needed. So I have been going thru every drawer, every closet space and all of my electronic goodies. I really don't need all of my CD's and DVD's in case my laptop(s) crash.I only need about 4 for each one of them. So all the others must be covered and placed in the storage unit. I will need warm clothing as the 'warm to them' days will be cool to me. Don't want to feed the skeeters so will need long legs and long sleeves. Good walking shoes and some wet shoes too.

Need to practice with the kayak and do more walking. Then I need to do more walking. I will hope to update the in between dates with photos for the blog and then get back on schedule. My plan is to publish at least once a week if not daily. So here is hoping I can Just Do It.
