A very nice neighbor

While we were camped at the Russian River Campground, we became friendly with the folks across the road. They were from West Virginia. The evening that we were preparing to leave, a knock came on the door and there was the gentleman with a plastic sack of fresh salmon that he had just caught down on the river.

There were two very nice size pieces. Liz and I managed to make those two pieces of salmon last for three meals. We didn’t get photos of the first nights meal and we really should have as it was pan seared and out of this world. This meal was broiled for about 5 minutes and then moved up to bake. It has cream cheese and paprika on it. It too was quite good. The left overs from the 2nd meal will go on a salad for the third meal.

What a really nice couple. We surely hope we meet up with them again down the road so that we can tell them thank you again.

Homer going north toward some place - found some birds

We left Homer today, but before we got away, we went back to a couple of favored spots. The Islands and Oceans boardwalk and The Two Sisters Bakery and Cafe. Got some good bird pics on the walk and we noted that the eaglets across from the Post Office had flegeded overnight. That's a good deal for them as they will need to build the flight muscles before winter sets in and catches them unaware. It will take about 4 years to get to the adult stage. Many don't make it. Let's hope these two are lucky.

We ended up at the Russian River Campground parked in the overflow lot. That was pretty nice. We hiked up the campground road and back to the rigs. Need to do that more often.

On the way home a gray jay taunted us with his sounds.

A black-capped chickadee came out long enough for a bad shot.

Driving around Skilak Loop we found these berries. They remind me of sumac back in Oklahoma and Texas. Don't know what they are.

More bird pics for my bird friends. By default we called this an Alder Flycatcher.

Hidden Lake

Seward to Kenai River CG and Russian Falls CG

We left Seward for the Kenai River Campground. Beautiful morning out my window in Seward.

Tern Lake had these gulls loafing around.

We did get to see Scoters, Bald Eagles and fishermen down at the river. In the campground we saw White-winged Crossbills. Both the adult and hatch year birds were feeding in a cottonwood tree. We also observed Mountain Goats across the road and way up on the mountain eating. There were 3 of them. Couldn’t get a pic it was way too far. Here is the river. Next are the Scoters and gulls on the river.

We drove to Russian River campground and while Liz, Jennifer and Ashley hiked up to the Falls, I birded down below and took photos of the flowers and neat things. We drove through the campground and decided it would be a neat place to stay. Lots of places available and some were quite nice.

This plant has a drop of water in the center of it's leaves.

Was not a great campground, but it did have good water and power. A dump that was okay and a washing machine that was broken. Probably skip on that one in the future.
