Wake up early bird

Birds started their morning dawn song at about 5:15 a.m. today. Absolutely a beautiful way to be awakened in the wilds of the Oklahoma Panhandle. This is like an oasis in the wild yonder. Heard my first Common Nighthawk last night. At about 6:15 a.m. this morning I heard my first Great Horned Owl on the river. I am sure they have called before but with the other ‘bird noise’ it was hard to hear the call.

Had a great breakfast of pancakes and sausage with the early birds. That means I’ll need to be eating lunch early. Here is a look at a house on the prairie.

I planned to make a day trip to see some of the rock formations. Headed to this place for the adventure.

The Autographa Rock is a formation of rocks where those individuals who were on the Santa Fe Trail would stop over for rest and water.

They 'picked' their name in the rocks. Here are a couple of them.

Not sure about this. Some of the really old petro's around here had these, but this isn't one of those.

This is the whole of the rock where the names are located.

This was an interesting shape. Bet it is no accident and done within last 75 years.

Where ever there is space.

This was an awesome day trip. Loved the drive over, great birds, great flowers, marvelous history and just all around awesome.
