Black Mesa Nature Preserve day trip

I had a great day trip yesterday over to Black Mesa Nature Preserve. This is about 10 or 12 miles from the Black Mesa State Park. Very interesting habitat. I am alway impressed with the layout of the land.

What do you think of this sight? Can you imagine coming around the bend and seeing this 150 years ago?

Along the way you might see this guy. Neato! Is he original to the area? I don't know. But see my post for tomorrow about the original inhabitants.

This is a teaser for my day trip tomorrow. Be sure and check it out.

This was a very interesting trip. I decided on the way back to camp that I would go by the town of Kenton and pick up some milk and chips and maybe get some gas. You know what - the town of Kenton doesn't have a grocery cum gas station. They have 2 or 3 churchs, a museum that was closed, and a post office. I found out the inhabitants were mostly retired folks and they didn't need a store. But on my way to the Preserve I did pass this building. Very striking, wouldn't you say? Vacant just now.
